American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN Med Surg for a travel nursing job in Parkersburg, West Virginia.

American Traveler is seeking a Med/Surg RN with travel experience and strong knowledge of infectious disease and isolation precautions for 12-hour night shifts.

\n \n Responsibilities\n
  • Work in an 18-bed Medical Surgical/Infectious Disease unit with all private rooms in an acute care hospital setting
  • Typical patient ratios are 1:5-6, or 1:4 when caring for COVID patients
  • Patients include those with a wide range of infectious diseases, isolation requirements, COVID, MRSA, C-Diff, and similar diagnoses
  • 12-hour night shifts (7:00pm-7:30am) with every other weekend required
  • Remote telemetry monitored from another floor; RNs do not interpret rhythm strips
  • Float required to all Med/Surg units and, if floated to Tele, patients will be assigned within skillset
  • Uses Epic EMR system, with one day of Epic training as part of orientation
  • Two CNAs are staffed per shift to support nursing care
  • No cardiac drips, vents, or advanced respiratory support; possible use of CPAP, BiPAP, or High Flow managed by respiratory therapy
  • Travelers are first to float on the unit
  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients requiring various infection control precautions
  • Unit is typically staffed with 3-4 RNs per shift and has 24/7 charge nurse coverage, with night charge nurses carrying full patient assignments
  • Required to wear royal blue scrubs; if a jacket is worn, it must be a royal blue scrub jacket (no hoodies or sweat-jackets)
  • Orientation includes one day of Epic training, one day on the floor with a preceptor, and the third day as a solo nurse
  • Block scheduling may be allowed if it meets unit needs
  • Holiday shifts may be assigned depending on permanent staff availability
  • First time travelers are not eligible for this assignment

  • Active WV or Compact RN license required upon submission
  • Minimum of 2 years recent Med/Surg RN experience required
  • Prior travel nursing experience is required
  • Current AHA BLS certification required
  • Strong knowledge in Medical/Surgical nursing, infection disease, and isolation precautions required
  • Must be able to provide an unexpired copy of driver’s license for consideration
  • Must reside at least 50 miles away from the facility; local travelers are not accepted
  • Cannot have worked within WVU Medicine in the last 2 years; no former perm staff from certain facilities allowed
  • Travelers may not work at any WVU facility for more than a cumulative year without a 2-year break
