Senior Underwriter Excess Casualty

About the role:

Under limited supervision, works on the Excess Casualty Team to provide underwriting expertise on medium to complex risks that achieve profitable growth by appropriate risk evaluation, selection, customer relationships and book management. You will work exclusively with wholesale brokers and agents to profitably underwrite a portfolio of renewal and new business accounts for the company.

Essential Functions:

• Underwrite complex casualty insurance risks within granted level of authorities by identifying and analyzing risk exposures, loss frequency and severity against desired coverage. Use appropriate pricing procedures and rules modifying coverages to meet desired customer needs. Provides technical assistance to customers regarding policy and endorsement provisions and underwriting acceptability or designated insurance coverages.

• Evaluate and underwrite new and renewal accounts to maintain profitable growth and market competitiveness. Identify changes in account/ market risk exposures and loss trends to maximize profitability.

• Develop collaborative relationships with external and internal customers. Work proactively with customers to define profitable accounts to develop, underwrite and bind. Provide effective and timely communication on risk selection and decisions and provide ongoing service to endorsement changes.

• Maintain strong industry knowledge of underwriting expertise and changes in market/ account positions. Develop and maintain full knowledge of all forms, coverages, ratings, and manuals for the specific line being underwritten.

• Provides technical guidance, coaching, and mentoring to others on the team and within the company.

Job Requirements:

• 7+ years related P&C underwriting experience with underwriting authority or equivalent.

• College degree or similar.

• Established broker and client relationships.

• Superior ability to develop and strengthen customer relationships.

• Superior ability to analyze risk and adhere to underwriting standards for risk selection and profitability.

• Ability to travel as required to meet business needs.

• Good organizational and time management skills required.

• CPCU or similar insurance designations and training preferred.

• Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders to drive profitable underwriting results

• Due to the fast-paced nature of our business, as a Senior Underwriter, you need to be able to assess insurability and fit for our risk appetite quickly and effectively, utilizing your experience, underwriting information, internal & external resources available
