Offer Description

The research assistant will participate in a project that collects and analyses soil and water samples from forest and peatland ecosystems to study the communities of organisms they contain.

The trainees tasks include sample collection, sample processing in the pre-treatment laboratory, compiling data, and preparing analyses. The position requires travel to various parts of Finland. The research trainee will also assist with tasks such as work in the eDNA laboratory, field plot inventories, and organizing the collection of background information for the plots.

You will be placed in Lukes Research Infrastructure Services unit.

Our expectations of the applicant

We expect the applicant to have a systematic and precise approach to sample handling and preparation, as well as laboratory and data management skills relevant to the work. The trainee we are looking for has a background in biological or environmental sciences. The position is suitable, for example, for a student in forestry, biology, or environmental sciences who has relevant skills and/or experience. A driving license is required.

• Trial period: The trial period is half the duration of the employment contract, but not exceeding six (6) months.
• Remuneration information: The position is at complexity level 1 in Luke's salary system and the position specific salary is EUR 2191,38 per month. In addition, a salary component based on personal performance will be paid (max. 50% of the position specific salary). A new employee's personal performance component depends on competence and experience and generally falls in the range of 15-20 %. The applicant may also present a separate salary request.
