The Maritime Field Engineer serves as a vital link between engineering and production teams in a shipyard environment. This role is responsible for developing and executing build strategies, coordinating system routing, and supporting the construction and installation of piping, electrical, and structural systems aboard vessels. The ideal candidate is results-oriented, proactive, and experienced in dynamic shipbuilding environments, with a proven ability to deliver new class vessels on time and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

As-Built Documentation:
    \n
  • Collaborate in the development of new-build vessel build strategy.
  • \n
  • Follow up and look into the possibility of improving the construction schedule.
  • \n
  • Provide production guidance and problem-solving during construction.
  • \n
  • Update drawings to reflect field changes and ensure compliance with design standards.
  • \n
  • Create and maintain accurate as-built drawings.
  • \n

Engineering and Production Coordination:
    \n
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to interpret design intent and resolve technical issues.
  • \n
  • Work closely with production supervisors and craft leads to ensure proper routing and installation of systems.
  • \n
  • Support construction of piping, electrical, and structural systems on vessels.
  • \n
  • Ensure compliance with ABS and USCG standards.
  • \n
  • Provide input with material sourcing and purchasing.
  • \n

System Routing & Construction Support:
    \n
  • Plan and verify routing for piping, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • \n
  • Provide on-site technical support during installation and commissioning phases.
  • \n
\n
Quality and Compliance:
    \n
  • Ensure all work meets ABS, USCG, and company standards.
  • \n
  • Review and revise drawings for accuracy and compliance with specifications.
  • \n
\n
Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement:
    \n
  • Address discrepancies between design and field conditions promptly.
  • \n
  • Suggest process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce rework.
  • \n
\n

Qualifications
    \n
  • Bachelor's degree in marine, mechanical or structural engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • \n
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in shipyard new build-projects.
  • \n
  • A minimum of 5 years in a craft management position (including subcontractor work).
  • \n
  • Proven record of contracts accomplished on time and on budget.
  • \n
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and familiarity with ShipConstructor or similar software.
  • \n
  • Strong understanding of vessel systems, including piping, electrical, and structural components.
  • \n
  • Ability to interpret and apply ABS/Coast Guard rules and regulations.
  • \n
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills; ability to work independently.
  • \n

Preferred Skills
    \n
  • Experience with NC nesting programs and template design.
  • \n
  • Familiarity with production workflows and shipyard safety protocols.
  • \n
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain drawing lists with updates.
  • \n
  • Experience in Electrical or Hybrid driven vessels.

Physical Demands
    \n
  • The employee must have correctable vision to 20/40 , however contact lenses are not permitted in certain production area positions.
  • \n
  • The employee must pass the Ishihara test for color blindness and have the ability to read and understand safety symbols and colors, (i.e. red, yellow, green, etc.).
  • \n
  • The employee must pass a pulmonary function exam for positions requiring respiratory protection.
  • \n
  • The employee must be able to stand, sit, walk, squat, kneel, stoop, or climb stairs or a ladder.
  • \n
  • The employee must be able to perform overhead work, as necessary, with a full range of motion.
  • \n
  • The employee must not be claustrophobic and may be required to work in confined spaces.
  • \n
  • The employee must have the capability to maneuver through openings as small as 18 inches by 23 inches, and would need to be able to move and crawl into awkward positions.
  • \n
  • The employee must be able to work in static positions for extended periods of time.
  • \n
  • The employee must have good balance and the capability of standing on each foot for a period of 30 seconds or more.
  • \n
  • The employee must not have a fear of heights and may be required to work in an elevated environment (which could include heights of more than 50 feet) on scaffolding, from staging, planking, or a mechanical lift.
  • \n
  • The employee must be able to carry tools and or equipment to their designated work area. They could include but are not limited to the tools associated with their trade, or others as designated by their responsibilities. The approximate weight could be as much as 75 pounds.

Work Demands

  • The employee is required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to respirator, hardhat, face shield, safety goggles, safety shoes (steel toe), safety harness, gloves or other protective clothing as determined by a Senesco Marine Job Hazard Analysis.
  • \n
  • The employee must report all accidents or injuries to their supervisor and the Environmental Safety and Health Department.
  • \n
  • The employee must report to their supervisor any and all damages to equipment, or broken and misused tools.
  • \n
  • The employee may be working in several different areas and environments; this includes work inside and outside of buildings or structures.
  • \n
  • The employee needs to work at a pace consistent with meeting company deadlines.
