4 weeks ago Be among the first 25 applicants The City of Pasadena - Public Health Department is currently seeking an experienced public health professional who will assist in planning, conducting, and implementing epidemiological investigations, field studies, and surveillance to identify causes and determine patterns of disease in the community.

For more detailed information, please review the job description. Assists in planning, conducting and implementing epidemiologic research studies and surveillance programs; assists in designing study protocols; develops survey instruments and surveillance forms; analyzes study data to determine the cause and probable source of disease outbreaks; prepares reports on investigative findings. Participates in the investigation of disease outbreaks and public health threats; collects and analyzes health and environmental data; conducts data analyses on large and small datasets using methodological techniques and computer software appropriate for epidemiological analysis; interprets findings and recommends prevention and control measures. Responds to requests for health-related statistical data and associated risk behaviors; prepares statistical reports and data analyses; assists in analyzing community health trends and developing assessments and policy recommendations. Assists in developing emergency preparedness training programs and exercises and in updating and maintaining public health emergency preparedness plans; provides information related to preparedness and other public health issues to individuals, schools, childcare centers, nursing homes, hospitals, health care providers and other agencies to ensure readiness for responding to outbreaks of infectious disease and other public health threats and emergencies, including bio-terrorism. Assists in grant management and applications to support epidemiologic research and public health programmatic interventions; assists in performing grant administration duties and preparing reports and invoices to grantor agencies. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

A master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in epidemiology, biostatistics, or a related field. One year of experience in assisting in the design, conduct, and evaluation of epidemiologic studies and field investigations. Or a bachelor’s degree in public health or a related field and three years of the above-required experience; or a combination of training and experience may be considered. Applicants with recent and direct experience planning, conducting and implementing epidemiologic research studies and surveillance programs will be deemed most qualified.

SELECTION PROCESS

The selection process will consist of a training and experience evaluation, interview panel, and department-level interviews. This position is part of the Pasadena Management Association bargaining unit. The probationary work period is one year.

There is currently one vacancy in the Public Health Department. The resulting eligibility list from this recruitment may be used to fill this vacancy and similar vacancies in the future. Special Requirements Must possess a valid California Class C driver's license and comply with the City's Motor Vehicle Safety Policy during the course of employment. Effective January 1, 2013, new members to CalPERS or an agency with CALPERS' reciprocity or who have more than a six month break in service between employment in a CalPERS (or reciprocal) agency will be subject to the provisions of the Public Employees' Pension Reform Act of 2013 (PEPRA) and will receive the 2% @ 62 benefit formula. Employees who are current members of CalPERS or an agency with CalPERS' reciprocity, or who have less than a six month break in service between employment in a CalPERS (or reciprocal) agency and employment with the City will be enrolled in the 2.5% @ 55 benefit formula. All employees are required to pay the full employee contribution to CalPERS.
