The Compliance Officer at Venice Family Clinic will provide leadership and support in the development, implementation and maintenance of compliance and risk management activities at Venice Family Clinic. Reporting to the Chief Strategy and Administration Officer, the Compliance Officer implements, oversees, monitors, enforces and, when necessary, modifies the Compliance and Risk Management Program at Venice Family Clinic. The Compliance Officer works with key management and executive staff to develop written standards and procedures, conduct internal auditing and monitoring, provide staff training and education, investigate possible violations, develop corrective action plans and when appropriate, enforce disciplinary standards. The Compliance Officer supervises staff who support compliance activities, including administrative support and credentialing specialists.

  • Oversees and manages the day to day of operations of the compliance and risk management program and activities, including supervision of staff.
  • Develops and maintains a compliance plan and program that addresses a range of compliance issues, including risk management, privacy, patient safety, and credentialing.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with local, state and federal rules, regulations and contracts that impact clinic operations, (such as HIPAA, 42CFR Part 2, HRSA, credentialing)
  • Responsible for the coordination of audits and the development and implementation of Corrective Action Plans.
  • Develops and maintains policies and procedures related to the compliance, and collaborates with other departments to ensure policies and procedures are maintained across the organization.
  • Collaborates with other departments to direct compliance issues to appropriate existing channels for investigation and resolution.
  • Serves as liaison with legal counsel, privacy, and risk management resources as needed to resolve difficult legal compliance issues.
  • In collaboration with the Chief Strategy and Administration Officer, and other managers responds to alleged violations of rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and standards of conduct by evaluating or recommending the initiation of investigative procedures.
  • Submits mandatory notification of known or suspected compliance violations to the appropriate regulatory agencies, such as privacy violations.Providing quality primary healthcare to people in need.
  • Collaborates with appropriate staff in the investigation of clinical events including sentinel events, sentinel event near misses, and significant adverse events; leads and/or participates in the development of root cause analyses as needed.
  • Oversees, and develops as needed, processes for internal incident reporting.
  • Devises systems and tools to measure, analyze and present data related to compliance and prepare reports for management, board, and other stakeholders.
  • Represents Venice Family Clinic various community associations and meetings related to compliance, including CCALAC, CPCA, and others as appropriate.
  • Works closely with staff and managers on compliance activities including trainings, workflow and development of policies and procedures.
  • Leads independently or collaboratively compliance and risk management focused work groups and tasks forces, such as risk management, safety and emergency preparedness.
  • The Compliance Officer works with key management and executive staff to develop written standards and procedures, conduct internal auditing and monitoring, provide staff training and education, investigate possible violations, develop corrective action plans and when appropriate, enforce disciplinary standards.
  • Develop training materials and conduct training related to compliance. Organize, leads and facilitates ongoing trainings to promote and implement elements of compliance and provide expertise and "coaching" for staff.
  • Ensure that all employees participate in trainings that meet compliance requirements, including the development and deployment of those trainings.
  • Develop and maintain ongoing competence and serve as a resources on issues relating to compliance, including regulations that apply to FQHCs, such as HIPAA, 42CFR Part 2, managed care, and HRSA regulations.
  • Communicate project updates on compliance to management, board and other stakeholders verbally and in written materials, including solicitation of feedback
Qualifications Required:
  • Bachelors degree in Public Health, Healthcare Administration, Public Policy or related field; master’s degree OR the equivalent in a combination of education/experience preferred.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience with compliance management and risk management, previous experience in a community clinic or health care setting is preferred.
  • Understanding of local, state, and federal regulations and laws which impact clinic/FQHC operations including HIPAA. Requirements.
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio).
  • Strong interest in Health Information Technology and the ability to master a practice management system, electronic health record, population management software, and other reporting systems.Providing quality primary healthcare to people in need.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of people of various educational and socio-economic backgrounds and with clear and concise oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with physicians, clinic staff, patients and volunteers.
  • Ability to function efficiently and independently, and to plan and prioritize daily work activities to meet clinic goals and objectives.
Pay Range:
• $105,200 – 250,600 Annually
