Job Summary:

In the Java Software Engineering role, you will design, develop, and test Java code in a Linux, Agile, DevOps environment. We are at the forefront of aerospace and defense technology. Our Satellite Ground Systems Teams play a pivotal role in ensuring communication, surveillance, and defense capabilities through cutting-edge satellite systems. What you will do:

The Java Software Engineer will design, develop, and maintain advanced software applications for our Satellite Ground Systems. This role involves close collaboration with systems engineers, hardware designers, and other software engineers to deliver reliable and high-performance software solutions. Other responsibilities to anticipate may include:

Design, implement, and test Java-based applications and software components for satellite ground systems.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define software requirements and specifications.

Work with previously written code and make modifications as necessary.

Ensure software performance, reliability, and scalability.

Participate in software design reviews, code reviews, and system integration activities.

Contribute to the completion of program and project milestones under the specific guidance of their immediate supervisor.

Follow established Software processes and procedures, development, documentation and maintenance/management of operations concepts, requirements (system, element, segment level), external and internal interfaces, and other software engineering work products/artifacts.

Stay updated with the latest advancements in Java and satellite technology to drive innovation.

Initially, this position could be a limited part-time role during the clearance process. Once a U.S. government issued TS/SCI security clearance is approved, full time work can commence. Unclassified work may be available prior to that approval; however, it is NOT guaranteed. 

Qualifications you must have:

Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM).

This position requires 12 months or less of relevant professional work experience (excluding internships)

Experience in object-oriented software design and development using a high order language such as Java in a Linux environment along with unit testing tools (e.g., JUnit)

Experience in scripting languages.

The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications we prefer:

Experience with Ansible, Jenkins, containers, and the Spring Framework

Security+ certification

Experience using the Atlassian tool suite.

Experience with satellite communication systems and protocols is highly preferred.

Familiarity with secure coding practices, especially in a defense or aerospace setting.

The salary range for this role is 55,000 USD - 107,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance. This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
